Focus

There are about 7.5 billion people on the earth. Yet so few have the right focus! Today, our culture screams for our attention. Movies, School, Work, Family, the list goes on and on. Everyone and everything wants our brain-space! How do we get it all done?

How are we expected to do everything that we need to accomplish in one day?

My sister is calling from the other room.

I need to do the dishes.

           My room's a mess.

My friend is on the phone.

It seems the whole world wants me at once!

It’s hard enough getting all my normal responsibilities finished, but squeezing God in there? That requires too much effort on my part! Think about this, God sent His Son. Died. And rose again all for you! Which do you think required more effort? If we think we don’t have time for a conversation with God, just MAKE some!

You don’t have to sit on your knees, blocking the world out to talk to God! You can talk to Him like you would a friend, a brother, a father. You can talk while you do the dishes, or while you walk to the park. He is always waiting for you, always there anytime you need to talk! He has told you He is always with you, all you need to do is answer! I am talking to myself too, I have been trying to work on chit-chating with God like I do with my friends.

You are His project, He is forever focused on You. Shouldn’t we try to focus on Him a little?

From Prison to Peace

It’s been quite a while since I have been able to write! I have had a wonderful, crazy summer! From dance camps to just swimming, I’ve had a great time. But I’ve returned, with more words that God has put on my heart. I hope you enjoy! The enemy is constantly trying to steal our peace. He is trying to steal our Joy. He is trying to keep us in bondage. Whether through deaths, broken relationships, or just day to day arguments, he is after us all. Tonight I realize why he does this. In Ephesians 6, Paul writes about the armor of God. As some of you will recall, this includes the shoes of the Gospel of Peace. When people trap or enslave others, they remove their shoes, to keep them from attempting escape. The Devil does the same thing. He has lulled us to sleep, and ensnared us in a dreary circle of apathy. Then, he removes our shoes, our peace, to ensure our detainment.  It is time to rise up and end our bondage! Even though Satan works to steal our peace, we can receive a...

Truth Over Lies

It starts as a small, still voice. Hiding in the back of your mind saying “is that REALLY true?” And just like that, the seed is planted. Even when you push it away for awhile, it still comes back, over and over. And one day, you realize you believe it. And that doubt, that lie, has become your truth.  You know what else starts as a still, small voice? Gods direction. You just have to stop and listen. Sometimes that means asking Him about your doubt or issue, sometimes it means simply focusing on Jesus and His beautiful power that surrounds you always.  Fear grows with attention. So does doubt. So does a 3 year old temper tantrums. So does your faith. Where is your attention going? What is clambering for your time, and what is winning? Because just as a 3 year old eventually gives up when he doesn’t get their way, Satan eventually stops trying. It may seem like a LONG time, and he usually tries to come back with something else, but you CAN win. In fact, we already...

Starting to Swim

“ …Your grace abounds in deepest waters Your sovereign hand Will be my guide Where feet may fail and fear surrounds me You've never failed and You won't start now.” Most of you have probably heard this moving song before by Hillsong United. It is a touching melody about allowing God move us into deeper waters. This theme, of going deeper into God’s heart, has been a recurring thought for me, and now I want to share those thoughts with you. The soft sand beneath your feet. The cool water at your fingertips.  The smell of salt in the air.  For me, this discribes one of God’s beautiful creations, the ocean. Though I am surrounded by land, I love our annual trip to Alabama’s coast line. It is refreshing to hear the waves crashing and just soak in God’s glory. But one thing is at the back of my mind whenever we go. Sharks. Although I know we will probably never swim far enough to actually encounter one, they have a powerful presence in the wat...
